About Us

Effective Altruism Turkey is the Turkish chapter of the global Effective Altruism movement, bringing together people who research and think about how we can produce more effective solutions to the world’s most important problems. At the heart of this philosophy lies the idea of combining the desire to help others with reasoning, scientific evidence, and careful analysis. Our aim is not only to act with good intentions, but also to understand how we can use our time, careers, donations, and other resources to create the greatest positive impact.

Our community is open to students, researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and anyone who wants to do good more effectively. Through the events, reading groups, seminars, and one-on-one meetings we organize, we help participants both encounter these ideas and discover how to apply them in their own lives.

Whatever your level, if these ideas spark your interest, we’d be delighted to welcome you among us!

What we do

Community Events

We host in-person social meetups, conferences, and workshops for anyone working in or curious about different cause areas.

Career Coaching

We provide one-on-one career coaching to help our members find high-impact career paths aligned with their skills, interests, and values.

Our values

An Inclusive and Open Community

We aim to create inclusive and supportive spaces where people in Turkey can easily access the ideas, resources, and opportunities of effective altruism, and where they can learn, discuss, and contribute. Our community is open to people from different backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.

Scope Sensitivity

While we recognize that saving one life is valuable, we also recognize that saving ten lives creates a much greater impact than saving one. That is why we try to prioritize opportunities that can create as much impact as possible.

Impartiality

We try not to discriminate among the people we choose to help based on whether they are close to us or live in the same place. We aim to direct our resources to those who need them most.

Scout mindset

To help others better, we try to seek the truth and understand the world as it is. We believe it is important to update our views in light of new evidence and strong arguments.
