Announcements

1) High-Impact Career - Impact Accelerator Program

Designed for professionals who are mid-career or at a more experienced stage and are not currently working in a high-impact role, the Impact Accelerator Program is a free 6-week program. The program allows you to identify impact-focused career paths, take concrete and effective action, and become part of an experienced, supportive professional network.

  1. Health Progress Hub - Global Health Policy Advocacy Training Program

Led by Berke Çelik and Ren Devrim Karabulut from the bulletin team, Health Progress Hub (HPH) aims to serve as a bridge between students and professionals in low- and middle-income countries and influential organizations working on important public health problems. In the pilot program that HPH will open for applications in the coming weeks, participants will have the opportunity to work for 6 weeks on projects from international organizations such as Lead Exposure Elimination Project and Fortify Health after completing a 4-week policy advocacy training.

Depending on the level of interest, we are considering running a special program for Turkey in 2025. If you are interested in global development, public health, and health policy, we recommend that you do not miss this opportunity. 3) Ambitious Impact (AIM) Online Conference

This online conference, taking place on December 5, focuses on nonprofit entrepreneurship. The event, similar to EAGx Virtual but on a smaller scale, will feature experts and organizations working in a variety of fields related to the world’s most pressing issues. Participants can explore collaboration opportunities, share experiences and gain new perspectives by scheduling one-on-one meetings through pre-created profiles based on their interests.

4) Artificial Intelligence for Animals - 2025 Conference

A conference focusing on the potential impacts of emerging artificial intelligence on animal welfare will be held in Berkeley on March 1-2. This event will cover topics such as what artificial intelligence means for animal suffering, interaction between species, sentience research, and the greater consideration of animals in pioneering artificial intelligence models.

5) Animal Welfare Economics Conference – Call for Abstracts

The Working Group on Animal Welfare Economics is accepting 300-word abstracts for its annual interdisciplinary conference to be held June 10-11, 2025 at the Paris School of Economics. This face-to-face event focuses on theoretical and empirical research addressing animal welfare from an economics perspective. Visa and travel support is provided for accepted texts.

6) The Future of the Oceans: A Call to Action Against Octopus Farming

This online panel, organized by the Animal Policy Alliance (APA) on December 2, will discuss the urgent need to ban octopus farming and solutions to protect our oceans. 5 different speakers, experts in their fields, will present their concerns about octopus farming and discuss the importance of stopping this practice before it becomes widespread on a global scale.

7) Animal Advocacy EA Book Club

In this book club, participants read the book determined each month and then come together and discuss it with a moderator at the end of the month. The book “Big Chicken: The Incredible Story of How Antibiotics Created Modern Agriculture and Changed the Way the World Eats” was read in November. The December book has not been determined yet, so you can participate as a new participant and express your opinion in determining the book.

Selected Readings

  1. Elliot Tep in this article He points out the benefits of working in jobs/organizations that are “not Effectively Altruistic.” For effective altruists at the beginning of their careers, traditional work experience can be valuable for both professional development and financial stability, he explains.
  2. Alex Savard points out that written communication is dominant in the EA community. In this post, he examines the potential of visual communication for bringing EA ideas to large audiences. He shows ways to make complex EA concepts more understandable through visuals he has created throughout his career on topics ranging from global income distribution to existential risks.
